Fotospeed Academy: The Art, Craft & Process of Landscape Photography with Julian Calverley

This class with Julian Calverley explores the art, craft and process of landscape photography through illustrated talks and demonstrations. Rather than being a practical workshop (but there will be printing on the day), the day focuses on how images are conceived, shaped and resolved. Drawing on Julian’s background in landscape photography, the class examines approach, inspiration, light, composition, panoramic techniques, post-production and the importance of printing.

About Julian Calverley:

Julian Calverley is one of the UK’s most respected landscape and advertising photographers, with over three decades of professional experience and a lifelong passion for the outdoors. An ambassador for ALPA Cameras, he leads photography masterclasses for ALPA Escapes and works directly with clients worldwide.

Inspired from an early age by the Scottish Highlands, Julian has developed a distinctive cinematic style that is instantly recognisable. He is particularly drawn to the dramatic light of autumn and winter, often returning to wild environments in extreme conditions to capture their changing moods.

Water — whether in rivers, shorelines, skies or clouds — features prominently in his work, bringing movement and atmosphere to his compositions. Influenced by traditional darkroom techniques, he applies meticulous post-production to each image.

His work is held in private collections globally, and his award-winning book North Northwest celebrates Scotland’s landscapes. Today, Julian continues to focus on creating powerful, evocative landscape photography.
